How to Write a Satisfying Conclusion to your story

By Jill Steves

No matter what genre you write, all stories need a satisfying conclusion. The ending is what will stay with your readers long after they've finished your book, so it's important to get it right. Here are some tips on how to write a satisfying conclusion to your story:

Plan your story's ending first

Start by planning the ending before you even start writing the story. This will give you a clear goal to work towards and help you stay on track.

Tie up your plot's loose ends

Make sure the ending ties up all the loose ends in the story. Your readers will be disappointed if there are unanswered questions or plot holes.

Readers like surprises - and sometimes SHOCK!

Don't be afraid to go for a shock factor. A surprising twist can make for a very memorable ending. Just make sure it makes sense within the context of your story.

Keep your book's tone consistent

Keep the tone of your ending consistent with the rest of your story. If your story is light-hearted, don't suddenly go dark and depressing at the end.

Satisfaction is key

Most importantly, make sure your ending is satisfying! This is subjective, of course, but try to think about what would satisfy YOU as a reader and work towards that goal.
